ELMAR ZEILHOFER — I TRIED TO PLAY THE GUITAR. I FAILED. THEN I BUILT MY OWN STRING THINGS. – : – : – : – 02.07.–25.09.2010
Constantly on the look for new challenges, Elmar Zeilhofer did loads of different jobs, visited many countries around the world and faced countless curious situations. Finally, his wish to play the guitar gave his career another unexpected turn: Instead of wading through exhausting music lessons, the artist crafted a simple instrument for himself. The very first Sound Box which was timbered of ordinary materials from the DYI store sounded so fascinating, that Zeilhofer immediately made a follow-up model: the very first cigar box ukulele was born.
Each of these unique string instruments has its own character and is regarded by the artist as a coherent part of an evolution chain. Perfection is not important for Elmar Zeilhofer; his main goal is the joy of experimenting and exploring the musical and engineering possibilities. New experiences which were gained during the crafting process flow into follow-up models made in various workshops. See Link to Elmar Zeilhofer
